Engineering Technician - (IMMEDIATE OPENING) - This is a hands on position at our Newark, NY location supporting our manufacturing and sales teams as well as our engineering department to draw, cast, and create refractory precast shapes.  The Engineering Technician uses CAD equipment to support Engineers by preparing routine layouts, detail drawings, assembly drawings, sketches, and diagrams. Details to include all views and dimensions necessary for manufacture. Makes copies and maintains information regarding changes to databases. Makes decisions but confers with Engineers and/or Supervisors regarding questions and/or problems. Solid understanding of drafting techniques and familiarity with engineering terminology.  Assist in completing cost estimates for shop and field projects, including bill of materials, subcontractor rfq’s. labor estimates, and tooling requirements to complete projects. Work with Sales and Engineering to ensure accuracy and promote best possible manufacturing practice.  Complete estimates using QuickBooks in proper format to facilitate accurate cost estimates to Sales personnel.  Essential Functions: Include, but are not limited to:

  • Using Solidworks, QuickBooks, Heat Flow modeling, CNC programming software and support, Inventor, AutoCad, 3D printing knowledge, and other software programs to develop cost estimates and engineering proposals.
  • Creating and revising production drawings (detail and assembly drawings)
  • Sketching rough layout of machine and computes angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii, clearances, tolerances, leverages, and location of holes, including detailed multi-view drawings of machines and products.
  • Utilizing knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings
  • Updating Drafting and Engineering Standards and maintaining an organized file system.
  • Converting existing production drawings to SolidWorks
  • Communicating to appropriate personnel regarding new and revised prints
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to read, interpret, and write documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, etc. to practical situations
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • High skill level in SolidWorks CAD software; skilled in PC usage and associated software including Microsoft Office; familiarity of CAD/CAM equipment and relationship of CAD to CAM
  • Ability to learn new graphic software to compliment the presentation of new SolidWorks designs

CNC Programmer/Operator - (IMMEDIATE OPENINGS) - The CNC programmer/operator is responsible for inputting data from customer drawings to program the CNC router to cut and machine shapes per customer requirements. Job qualifications include:

  • Read and interpret drawings
  • CAD Experience is necessary
  • Solidworks, Inventor and/or Bobwire knowledge a plus
  • G Code Experience
  • Working with a flatbed router
  • Working with Hotwire EDM
  • Knowledge of V Carve
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work accurately in a fast paced environment

Field Refractory Installers - (IMMEDIATE OPENINGS) - We are seeking candidates with a mechanical aptitude or construction background to work as refractory installers on a crew under the direction of experienced refractory installers at various customer sites in Upstate New York and other locations primarily in the Northeast. Experience to include:

  • Background or aptitude in construction trades (Carpentry, Masonry, Construction, Mechanics, Concrete and Welding) desired, including post secondary training in construction trades
  • Safety Training, OSHA 10 Preferred
  • Refractory Experience Preferred
  • Driver's License and Reliable transportation REQUIRED
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Willing to be part of a team

We are looking for laborers with previous experience, including vocational training or 2 year technical programs focusing on construction trades.  Some travel is required for this position with compensation for travel and expenses.

Warehouse Manager and CDL Truck Driver - (IMMEDIATE OPENING) -  The Warehouse Manager coordinates activities concerning counting, processing, inspecting, replenishing, issuing, and locating any merchandise or materials both inbound and outbound from the warehouse. The warehouse manager also coordinates the packaging of materials to be shipped as well as assists in coordinating shipping both by company drivers and outside companies. This sometimes includes making local or regional deliveries.  

Skills required:

  • Clean driving record, CDL A preferred
  • Driving larger trucks, not all require a special license to drive. Sometimes deliveries are done with a pickup/trailer
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Forklift experience
  • Ability to lift 55 pounds
  • Good communication skills
  • Previous experience with customer interaction preferred
  • Previous experience with purchasing preferred
  • Experience with warehouse management, inventory tracking, and issuing materials
  • Computer literacy and experience  - especially QuickBooks, Microsoft Office programs, and Outlook

This position will be based at our Syracuse location, but some training will take place in the Newark, NY office. Candidate must be able to travel between both locations as meetings and training will take place in both locations.
