Meet Bobby Vazquez – He has been with Upstate Refractory Services for 5 years and has grown from laborer to leader. Bobby’s specialty at URS is forming and pouring precast shapes as well as training/coaching employees. Bobby manages the precast production team and he is also a member of our safety committee. Bobby describes a typical day at URS as fast paced – he is always on the move whether coaching an employee, diving into a pour, problem solving any issues that may arise or trying to keep the workplace safe. Bobby is great with teaching new skills or techniques and guiding employees toward their strengths, with the company’s needs in mind.

Prior to URS, Bobby received his Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from SUNY Cortland and Masters in Literacy from SUNY Oswego. After graduating and teaching for 4 years at the elementary level, Bobby took an opportunity elsewhere and become a foreman at a sawmill. In this position, Bobby’s knack for leadership thrived. Bobby came to URS as a laborer, but his strong work ethic, leadership skills and application of knowledge allowed Bobby to quickly rise to the Cast Shop Team Leader position.
Bobby says that the thing he likes most about working at URS is, “hands down the small family owned aspect of the business, with a close second being the growth within the company and the ability to take on new tasks.” Recently, Bobby joined our sales and management team and attended the AISTech 2022 conference.
When not working, Bobby can be found on Lake Ontario fishing for salmon or hunting in the woods.
URS is proud to have Bobby on our team!
