URS routinely makes repairs to furnace structures, doors, roof assemblies, and other replacement parts.
If your equipment can be transported to URS, our highly trained staff can send it back looking and performing like new, without the need for disruption of your production areas by work crews, dust, and other distractions. This is especially useful for foundry ladles, small melt furnaces, small forge furnaces, covers, launders, and furnace doors. Our capabilities include refractory installation, dry-out services, steel fabrication and repairs and logistics to pick up and deliver your piece of equipment on time and cost effectively.
For larger jobs, URS has equipment and skilled installers to perform onsite brickwork, casting, gunite, ceramic fiber, and even steel and combustion work.
We can safely and quickly remove your lining and install a new lining to the original specifications.
We can safely and quickly remove your lining and install a new lining to the original specifications, or redesign the furnace lining to improve the life, save energy, speed installation time, or provide accelerated dry-out. This includes rapid heat-up technologies—precast shape systems that are dried off-line to save time and reduce installation time.

Brokk Equipment
Our Brokk machines only task is to reduce your plant shut down time, while maintaining safety for the workers involved. We use this equipment for our refractory repair and demolition applications that require highly-controlled precision. Our Brokk machines are the ideal tool for on-site safety from exposed areas and for the best possible view of the job at hand.
Refractory Pumps and Mixers
We use Blastcrete MX10 and X10, as well as Allentown RP20 refractory pumps and our operators are highly skilled in the infinite variety of jobs we handle. Our mixers range in batch sizes from 100 lbs to 3300 lbs.
Gunite
Surgun® Gunning Mixes
URS is an authorized installer of Vesuvius USA’s Surgun® Refractory Gun Mixes. We have the specialized equipment and training required to install this material with very predictable results. Among the benefits is quick turnaround, longer service campaigns, and cost savings over major repair or total re-lines. We have a proven track record of success with this material in many different industries and applications.
URS is an authorized installer of Unifrax Foamfrax, which can be used to repair ceramic fiber linings due to wear and damage, as a backup insulation for dense refractories, and over dense refractory to save energy and prolong the life of the existing lining. This is an excellent material for repairs to ladle walls, reheat furnaces, covers, heat shields, and as a backup lining.
Shotcrete
The nature of the shotcrete process provides refractory-specific benefits, such as excellent bond with most substrates and instant or rapid capabilities, particularly on complex forms or shapes.Shotcrete is often described more as a process than a material. Both wet and dry processes produce a material that when mixed properly has superior hardened properties to high quality conventional concrete – including high strength, low permeability and tough durability.
Fiberfrax® Silplate® Mass 1500 is for application at temperatures up to 1500°C (2732°F). It may be applied on ceramic fiber insulation to form a surface that is highly resistant to abrasion and flame impingement.
Silplate Mass 1500 is applied on ceramic fiber lining systems with the following benefits:
- Increased abrasion resistance and durability
- Underlying fiber protected from shrinkage and/or chemical attack
- Minimized heat loss through cracks in the insulation
- Increased flue gas velocity resistance
- Heat Reflectance/Energy Efficiency
